Work toward your badges with Delaware State Parks

 
Delaware State Parks offer badge programs, volunteer projects, and many recreation opportunities for Boy and Girl Scouts of all ages at various sites across the state. Take a look at the program calendar below for upcoming Boy and Girl Scout programs or contact one of the parks listed below for more information about their badge programs.

Badge programs include topics such as ecology and nature, birding, orienteering, canoeing, camping, history and more.

Park entrance fees charged from March 1 to November 30 are not included in program fees. For more details visit the Passes, Tags, and Fees page.

  • Special Programs and Events

    Girl Scout Bookbinding

    Join us at the Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park as you create your very own mini booklet from scratch! During this workshop, participants will be provided all the materials needed to create a unique 4.5”x5.5” booklet using craft bookbinding techniques. Their creation will be a true work of Folk Art, incorporating their ideas and experiences into the design. This workshop completes the Cadette Book Artist Badge, but any Girl Scout Junior level (4th grade) and older is welcome to participate. Scheduled as requested, $8 per participant, and all girls must be accompanied by a supervising adult.

    Girl Scouts Love State Parks

    Delaware State Parks have been involved in Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend since the inaugural year of 2019, offering historical, environmental and outdoor skills programs for local Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts can find programs being hosted at parks across the state during this September event. Check the programs calendar below for more details. We hope to see you and your Girl Scouts in the parks to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks!

    Hayrides at Delaware State Parks

    Looking for a fun activity for your whole troop? Check out our wagon ride programs held at parks across the state. Hayrides can be followed up with a campfire where your Scouts can enjoy cooking over the open flames and beneath the open sky.

  • Volunteer projects

    Delaware State Parks is grateful for the volunteer service scouts have contributed in parks throughout our state, and we welcome scout participation including packs and troops as well as senior scouts seeking advanced awards or rank.

  • Pack or Troop

    There are a large variety of activities for your group of scouts that can be coordinated to fit your schedule and interests.

    Scheduled Project:

    When scheduling a Scout group project, our park staff will work with you to plan and coordinate your project from determining best location, schedule and activity so the event can be educational, rewarding and helpful.

    Volunteer Calendar:

    Individual and Scouts groups may also consider participating in pre-scheduled volunteer activities at parks throughout the state by visiting and registering on our Volunteer Calendar.

    Group Projects May include:

    • Environmental Stewardship:
      Learning about and removing invasive non-native plants * Helping maintain native or butterfly gardens * Light trail maintenance- leaf and natural debris removal *Tree planting
    • Special events:
      Among others, activities may include Coastal Cleanup (Sept) * Beach Grass Planting (March) * Christina or Brandywine River Clean (April)
      Special holiday events based on the season and park- helping with set up and decorating fun of the event- like making wreaths or decorate pumpkins or helping put decoration in place for events such as the Fantasy Trail (Cape Henlopen in October) and Enchanted Meadow (Brandywine Creek in October)
    • Park Beautification:
      Helping keep clean and maintained play grounds and picnic areas* Helping mulch playgrounds for safety *Gardens/ planting areas for protection * Planting, weed, rake and maintain native, rain and decorative gardens and plantings.

    There are many opportunities to help you meet your service component for your award.

    After receiving your completed registration or Inquiry Form, a park staff member will contact you to begin discussing possible service opportunities that fit your time line, interest and the needs of the park.
