About the Park

Delaware’s only zoo is tucked inconspicuously in the heart of Wilmington. Brandywine Zoo is committed to connect people with unique species to further understanding and inspire action to conserve and protect for generations to come. Featuring animals from the tropical and temperate areas of North and South America, Asia, and Africa. The zoo animals range from more common species to the highly endangered. The Zoo is supported by the Delaware Zoological Society, our not-for-profit partner, and accredited by the American Zoological Society.
  • Zoo History

Founded in 1905, the Brandywine Zoo will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2025 and has changed immensely from its inception. At one time housing bears, tigers and elk to later being converted into a children’s zoo – our new Master Plan and Capital Campaign reimagine the zoo to serve visitors for the next century!

  • AZA-Accreditation & Conservation

The Brandywine Zoo has been continuously accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 1986. Accreditation is a mark of excellence, and ensures that the zoo is meeting or exceeding professional standards in animal care, conservation, visitor services and education. Additionally, the Brandywine Zoo actively participates in conservation efforts through field projects, educational programming and the AZA Species Survival Plan, a cooperative breeding program for endangered and threatened species.

  • Brandywine Zoo website

The Brandywine Zoo is supported by the Delaware Zoological Association. Please visit the Brandywine Zoo dedicated site for more information on the zoo’s animals and exhibits, amenities and to plan your visit.
