Tour the Historic Marshall Mansion

A stunning example of a Victorian-style home and décor, the Marshall Mansion housed the family who once called Auburn Valley State Park their home. Park historians weave the stories of the Marshall family, their vulcanized fiber mill empire and estate throughout guided tours and events.

Fish the Red Clay Creek

An ecological restoration success story, the Red Clay Creek was once heavily polluted by zinc from the National Vulcanized Fiber plant operations. After years of remediation by multiple divisions of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, today the creek is teaming with wildlife – including stocked trout each spring.

Ride a Vintage Steam Car or Miniature Railroad

Visit the Marshall Steam Museum on Steamin’ Days to learn about steam power’s place in American history and the vital role of water to the region’s industrial past – all while enjoying a ride in a vintage steam car or the children’s miniature railroad.

Hike the Oversee Farm Trail

Enjoy a 1.1 mile paved-path hike through rolling farm hills while appreciating the architecture of the historic Oversee farmhouse and bank barn.

About The Park

Nestled along the Red Clay Creek and home to the world’s largest operating collection of Stanley Steamer cars, Auburn Valley State Park highlights the area’s rich industrial history. Unique architecture abounds, from the Marshall Mansion to rare 19th century bridges to the historic bank barn of the Oversee Farm. Hike, tour, and explore at Auburn Valley!

Park History

Auburn Valley State Park is comprised of the lands once held by the Marshall family – pioneers of paper milling and vulcanized fiber manufacturing, and prolific industrialists of the 19th century. The park includes the family’s Queen Anne-style home and estate grounds, the Marshall Brothers Paper Mill, the National Vulcanized Fiber plant, the Marshall Steam Museum and nearby Oversee Farm. Formerly the Auburn Heights Preserve, the park was officially added to the Delaware State Parks system in 2019.
Historic Marshall Mansion

Built in 1897, the Marshall Mansion is an wonderful example of the Queen Anne architectural style. Containing the family’s antique furnishings, the museum offers a step-back-in-time experience during tours, events and private functions.
Marshall Steam Museum

Discover the power of Steam at the Marshall Steam Museum. Housing the world’s largest collection of Stanley Steamer cars, the museum gives guests the opportunity to experience life at the dawn of the automotive age first-hand. Learn more about the Marshall Steam Museum.
