Discover Unique Getaways at Delaware State Parks
September 25, 2024
Pondering your next retreat into nature? Where to go? What to do? What to bring? Before you know it, your much-needed getaway just became overwhelming! We get it – decision fatigue is real, and the choices we make no matter how big or small can damper the spirit of a restful retreat.
But let’s face it: you’re yearning for somewhere that promises serene beauty and a chance to disconnect from the everyday – with a sprinkling of adventure as you choose. We’ve got just what you’re looking for!
Cabins: Your Woodsy Escape
Wake up to the soothing sounds of birds chirping, surrounded by lush forests and crisp air. You’ve slept peacefully without the hassle of pitching a tent or the pressure of getting your rig parked because you simply arrived and unloaded into a lovely, cozy cabin. A comfortable retreat into nature year-round at Cape Henlopen, Killens Pond, and Trap Pond state parks, our cabins are a great way to explore camping without committing to purchasing equipment.
Get your fix of the beach at Cape Henlopen, or cozy up with a good read & board games at Killens Pond or Trap Pond. Enjoy all the recreational opportunities the parks have to offer, like world class educational programs, fishing, hiking, biking, birding, and disc golf.
Cottages: Luxury Perched on the Water
Get ready to unwind in our charming cottages at the Indian River Marina, where luxury meets the great outdoors. These coastal cottages offer spacious living areas where you can stretch out and truly relax, fully furnished with large beds, couches, dining areas and stocked kitchens. Our cottages are tucked right by the water’s edge, so you can wake up to stunning views every day. As the day unfolds, so do the possibilities. Take a leisurely stroll along 6 miles of ocean and bay shoreline, hike the adjacent nature preserve or explore maritime heritage at a one-of-a-kind museum. Visitors can enjoy swimming, deep-sea fishing, surfing, sailing, paddling, hiking, bird watching and much more. Indulge at two in-park restaurants or make the quick trip to the resort town of Rehoboth Beach for tax free shopping. And if you’re visiting from October 15 through April 15, cozy up by the electric fireplace and let its warmth envelop you!
The Assawoman Canal House: Coastal Bungalow
The Assawoman Canal Cottage at Delaware Seashore State Park is your ticket to an unforgettable escape. Wake up to the tranquil waters right outside your window, surrounded by the beauty of nature. A full-fledged home with 4 bedrooms, entertaining space, and a private dock, it’s perched on the edge of the Assawoman Canal and White Creek with access to the Indian River and Little Assawoman bays. The cottage is in one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s most popular recreational destinations, with a wealth of natural settings and six miles of ocean and bay shoreline! Spend your days fishing or crabbing from the dock’s edge or launch your kayak and explore the waterways. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or adventure, the Assawoman Canal Cottage has it all.
Yurts: A Must-Try Experience
If you’re up for a one-of-a-kind camping adventure, our yurts at Lums Pond and Trap Pond state parks are calling your name! These circular, tent-like structures on an elevated wooden platform bring a whole new level of fun to your outdoor getaway, combining the convenience of a cabin with the charm of tenting. For the perfect touch of serenity, our yurts feature a central skylight allowing the sun and moon to naturally illuminate your room. But that’s not all – when you stay in our yurts, you’re in the heart of the action! Enjoy kayaking adventures, and fun trails to hike and bike, or dive deep into the natural world with educational programs offered by the parks. Check out programs happening during your stay at our Events and Programs page.
